The Voluntours story
A personal story from our founder Simon Gygax:
In 2023, I came to Colombia looking for something real — a way to travel beyond mass tourism. I joined a volunteering program in Bucaramanga, where I met Laura. Very quickly, we both felt the same thing: we wanted to do more. More for the local foundations, and more to connect travelers with this place.
In 2024, we turned that idea into reality. Bucara Voluntours was born — combining volunteering, Spanish classes, and authentic travel experiences. Since then, we’ve welcomed over 200 travelers to Bucaramanga.
Now, in 2026, we’re taking the next step.
With Voluntours Colombia, our goal is to create a nationwide network of meaningful travel experiences — from vibrant cities to remote coastal regions — always rooted in local communities.
